Looking for change in your government?
Let those up for re-election in 2010 know you're watching them and encourage others concerned with the direction our nation is headed to do the same. For far too long, those we have elected have not been held to account. Are they representing their own interests or those of their constituents? In far too many cases, they seem more interested in securing their own re-election by catering to the special interest groups that fund their campaigns.
Whether it be on the local, state or national level, let the elected know they are being watched like never before. The people are ready to clean house (and senate, for that matter). Special interest groups and projects have become addicted to government funding. Every week and month they seek yet another slice of the government money pie, either directly or indirectly through proposed legislation. Increasingly, such appropriations are hidden in the folds of must-pass bills, passed with little if any attention drawn to them and certainly not on account of their own merit. It has to stop.
Americans are starting to keep score.
For starters, we have every right to expect those we elect to do their homework. Read the bills. Ask questions as though a devil's advocate --be diligent in protecting the people's interests and hard-earned money! Look for money trails at every turn and follow them. We are. And, should we find one leading back to you, be forewarned. Far too much legislation is being proposed anymore. Far too many of our hard earned dollars are being redistributed without our knowledge or consent.
Most importantly, heed the educated and prevailing will of those you represent. Hear us. Respect us. When polls show the people overwhelmingly say NO to nationalized government-controlled healthcare, listen to them. In short, do the job you were hired to do, nothing more and nothing less.
We are watching.
If you won't represent us, know that replacing you will be our all-consuming mission.
